The University of California, Riverside TESOL programs are comprehensive teacher development
programs designed to provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge to create or
develop language teaching specialists in the ESL field.
Gaining knowledge in the TESOL field ensures participants successful careers as ESL instructors.
The main focus of the program is on practical English teaching skills using current trends and
methods. Designed for advanced and native speakers of English, the University of California, Riverside
TESOL programs focus on specific teaching skills including conversation, pronunciation, listening and
speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and American culture. Our faculty consists of English as second language professionals who are experienced educators in various language skill areas and have a background in TESOL training.

TESOL program

Three-Week TESOL Workshop
Geared towards professionals with teaching experience who are non-native speakers of English, the three-week TESOL workshops are offered 12 times a year. This program introduces a wide variety of North American teaching methodologies and approaches for English language teaching with a focus on language development and content area instruction.Workshops range from practical applications and activities for conversation, pronunciation, reading, writing, vocabulary, computer-assisted language learning, grammar and games. Students will have the opportunity to observe ongoing ESL classes, and create and present their own activities based on the methodologies learned.

Admission Requirements
• Advanced-level English required.
Minimum scores:
• Paper-Based TOEFL 523 with TSE 40 or iBT TOEFL 69 with minimum 22 on Speaking
• IELTS 5.5
• TOEIC 650
• Minimum age: 18

Students who provide an official TOEFL score or equivalent will receive direct entry to the program. All new students, regardless of their test score, will be required to take an assessment test to help us understand your needs and support you during your studies.
